Open Source is a set of guidelines and best practices that aide the promotion of production and design. It is usually, and in this case, applied to the source code of software. For example the Linux Kernel's source code is available for download allowing anyone the ability to update and or modify the Linux operating system. Similarly, Asterisk is an Open Source project.
